Frederick Jacob was one of the earliest brickmakers in Dunedin, establishing his brickyard in Great King Street. He walked to the goldrush in Gabriel's Gully but found no gold. His Miner's Right dated 1862 is in the Otago Early Settler's Museum, Dunedin.

Source - letter written by Walter Frederick abt 1916 Frederick married Mary Sutherland Allan, daughter of Alexander Allan and Mary Mackenzie, on 20 Oct 1860 in Port Chalmers, Otago. (Mary Sutherland Allan was born on 20 Nov 1838 in Isle of Skye, Scotland, died on 9 Feb 1883 and was buried in Northern Cemetery, Grave unmarked.) The cause of her death was Tuberculosis for 10 years.
